STRESS-FREE Wedding Style

You could definitely say love is in the air at Cory’s Hair Studio & Day Spa. If you stop in on any given Saturday, the salon is swept up in wedding day excitement. “Every Saturday in our salon, we have brides getting ready for the big day, especially right now in the fall,” says salon owner and stylist Corinne Calabro. “And when you add the bridesmaids, flower girls and mothers, there is a flurry of activity, whether they are getting an updo, makeup application or polished nails—or even sipping on mimosas.”

It’s all part of the homey feel and friendly staff that make Cory’s Hair Studio the perfect place for special occasions. From preparing your skin several weeks in advance with one of its facials or a manicure the week before, to hair and makeup on the actual wedding day, the staff makes every bride feel pampered and beautiful. For Grafton resident Cathy and her daughter, Megan, Cory’s Hair Studio & Day Spa was the perfect start to their day—and a memorable bonding experience.

“My daughter and I showed up when the salon opened at 8 a.m. with four bridesmaids and her mother-in-law, and the staff greeted us with mimosas and made us feel relaxed,” says Cathy, who has been a client at Cory’s for the past decade. “The morning of a wedding can be really stressful, but the staff pampered us and it was so stress free because we did not have to do our own hair and makeup.” “My daughter and I did not have to worry about how our hair and makeup would turn out because we came to Cory’s a month before the wedding for a practice hairstyle and makeup session,” she adds. “I actually grew my hair out before the wedding so I could have an updo.”

The salon offers custom bridal packages so brides can choose exactly what they want and offer friends and family the convenience of getting ready together. “One of our most requested services is airbrush makeup,” says Corinne. “We airbrush makeup for a glowing foundation and then add eye, cheek and lip color for a flawless look.” Cathy boasts that the makeup lasted all day. “It was the first time I had airbrush makeup and it looked flawless,” she says. “Even though I have slightly oily skin, it lasted all day and I did not need to do any touch-ups.”

In addition to salon and spa services, Cory’s Hair Studio and Day Spa also sells tiaras and hair accessories. “We sell a lot of hair accessories for less than you’ll find elsewhere, and we can pair them better with your hairstyle,” says Corinne. “Come in to our salon and let us help to make your wedding day beautiful.”

With a focus on wellness, Cory’s Hair Studio & Day Spa is adding reflexology to its extensive spa menu, as well as introducing a new licensed medical massage therapist.

Molly Hatch, LMT, combines her resort spa experience with a laid-back demeanor that puts clients at ease. After working two years in Sedona, Arizona—the spiritual mecca for healing and well-being—where she treated clients from all over the world, Molly is back in Northeast Ohio helping Cory’s clients connect mind, body and soul.

“I offer all modalities of massage, from Swedish to deep-tissue to prenatal,” says Molly, a 2006 graduate of Midpark High School who moved back home with her husband to raise their two young boys. “The most soothing treatment is the hot stone massage, which incorporates lava rocks made from earth elements with minerals that make you feel more grounded.”

To offer more wellness options, Cory’s Hair Studio & Day Spa now offers reflexology. Based on the theory that there are reflex points on the feet, hand and ear linked to every organ and part of the body, the therapist applies pressure to the feet and hands with specific thumb and finger techniques to relieve tension.

“Not only do your feet and hands feel relaxed, but your entire body will feel more energized after reflexology,” says Molly.

Cory’s Hair Studio & Day Spa is located at 7216 Pearl Road in Middleburg Heights. For an appointment call 440-888-8864. The salon is open seven days a week.

Rock the Perm

If there is any doubt as to whether perms are making a comeback, just look at Hollywood celebrities like Olivia Munn and Emma Stone, who are rocking the new modern perm.
“This new wave of perms proves the ‘80s throwback trend is here to stay, but with a modern interpretation,” comments Corinne Calabro, owner of Cory’s Hair Studio & Day Spa. “The modern perm gives you a more subtle, soft, tousled look. Perfect for a carefree summer style, these effortless beach-wave curls showcase bouncy movement more than a defined curl.”
To create this updated perm style, the stylists at Cory’s use new and advanced product formulas with less ammonia that add an intense conditioning treatment. They also are using new techniques with different rod sizes so clients can pick the desired level of curl.
And for those blessed with natural curly hair, Cory specializes in DevaCurl, a specialized dry-cutting technique, in which the hair is cut when it is in its natural dry state and not wet.
“Each curl is cut individually so it does not disrupt the curl pattern,” says Corinne, noting that Cory’s is one of a handful of salons certified in DevaCurl. “By cutting the hair when it is dry, we can see how the curls fall naturally.”

Going Blonde

If you want to go blonde, for best results you’ll need the help of a professional hairstylist.
“Our hairstylists can transform dark brown and even black hair to blonde, but clients need to understand that it is a process,” says Corinne Calabro, owner of Cory’s Hair Studio & Day Spa. “When you start out dark, or if you already have colored hair, you usually need three to four coloring treatments to healthily get to the final desired blonde shade. You cannot expect to magically transform from dark to blonde in just one visit.”
It is possible to get that buttery blonde, platinum white or strawberry blonde you’ve been longing for, with professional hair color. At Cory’s Hair Studio, the stylists are expert colorists who not only create the look you want but also focus on keeping your hair healthy.
“We have products clients can use at home to keep their hair shiny and healthy,” says Cory. “One of my favorites is Pravana Perfect Blonde shampoo and conditioner that eliminates brassiness and adds shine and elasticity to hair.”
For added boost, Matrix Instacure leave-in spray smoothes the cuticle and conditions over-processed hair, and MoroccanOil Restorative Hair Mask infuses protein back into chemically treated hair with a restorative formula rich in argan oil and shea butter.
“Almost anyone can go blonde, but getting there is a journey,” says Cory. “It takes a mix of salon appointments and at-home maintenance.”

Dry Cutting for Curls

“We tell our clients to stop fighting their curls and embrace them,” says Corinne Calabro, owner of Cory’s Hair Studio & Day Spa. “We offer a specialized haircutting technique that enhances natural curls.”
One of only a handful of salons in the area to offer DevaCut, Cory’s stylists are certified in this specialized dry-cutting technique. Hair is cut when it is in its natural dry state instead of wet.
“Each curl is cut individually so it does not disrupt the curl pattern,” says Corinne. “By cutting the hair when it is dry, we can see how curls fall naturally.”
In addition to offering the DevaCut, Cory’s Hair Studio carries the DevaCurl product line, specifically designed for wavy and curly hair to help clients get that salon look at home.
“The products help eliminate frizz and condition the hair,” says Corinne. From the SuperCream Coconut Curl Styler to the No-comb Detangling Spray, the products are free of any parabens, silicones and sulfates.

Hot looks for 2018

When the calendar flips over to 2018, it is out with the old and in with the new. One of the best places to make a change is your hairstyle. The stylists at Cory’s Hair Studio & Day Spa can expertly translate all of the latest beauty trends, and give you a total makeover or just freshen up your style.
According to salon owner Corrine Calabro, here is what is trending right now.

  • Ponytails. Add some glam by putting your hair up in a sleek ponytail. If you don’t have long hair, don’t despair. The stylists at Cory’s Hair Studio can add hair extensions.
  • Side-swept bangs. All you need to do is look at your favorite celebrity to see that bangs are in—especially when swept to one side. These swoopy side bangs are easy to style.
  • Messy buns, messy braids. No fussing. Enough said.
  • Pixie and lob cuts. Both styles pay homage to two old classics, but boast an updated feel. The pixie cut has a little more shag and tousled look, and the lob is a longer bob (from your chin-to-your-collarbone) that is flattering on all hair types.
  • Curls, curls, curls. A new version of the perm, body waves give your hair a little bounce and boost your style. For those who have naturally curly hair, Cory’s Hair Studio specializes in the DevaCurl cut for frizz-free, manageable curls.
  • Icy blonde balayage. Heading into spring, this white-blonde color gets a more natural look as hairstylists apply the color freehand.

“At Cory’s, we are constantly educating ourselves to stay abreast of trends and techniques,” says Corrine. “We’re excited to share with our clients all of the new things coming this year.”

This Season’s Bridal Styles

a beautiful bride at the makeup table

Bridal styles this year have a more tousled look but are still sophisticated, with textured low updos that don’t look overdone,” says Corinne Calabro, owner of Cory’s Hair Studio & Day Spa. “Not everyone wants an updo, so our stylists will come up with different style options, whether a half updo with side-swept hair, braids to twist it all together or even chic ponytails.”

At Cory’s Hair Studio, the hairstylists consult with the bride to find the perfect complement to her wedding dress and personality. This includes trial hairstyles, along with a practice airbrush makeup application to make skin look flawless.

The salon is large enough to accommodate several bridal parties, including mother of the bride, bridesmaids and flower girls, on the morning of the wedding, but it’s also intimate so the bride feels like the center of attention on her special day.

“A lot of bridal parties also come in the week before the wedding to bond and get manicures and pedicures,” says Cory.
